WordPress project has lately build a roof to protect the project from the “bad weather”. But strangely enough they called it WordPress Foundation. Jokes apart, this is great news for the Open Source movement, especially for the WordPress community guys like me. Here is what they say in a few word on the official site:

Yes, I know I’m late, but I decided to write this post just for the sake of chronology. Not only has WP 2.8 been released with a lot of new great improvements, but it has been downloaded more than 850.000 times already. That’s amazing. As you now know, you can upgrade automatically your WP blog/site to the latest version (since 2.7) or you can download it at WP download section.

Yeah, I am very busy, I know. However I managed to dedicate some time to my little cute blog. I did some code optimization work to improve the performance and speed. Also I rearranged the main top menu to improve accessibility to my content and also rearranged the footer of the site to make it more attractive to visitors eye. I hope you guys will spend less time browsing my blog and love it more.

Having in mind the fact that I am in the middle of a lot of work, I am keeping this post short. I wish you a great time!

WordPress 2.7.1 Notification

My dashboard says that WordPress 2.7.1 is out, but no post has been written yet in the development blog of WordPress.org to notify and welcome the new version. I know a lot of bugs have been fixed and perhaps a couple of new features have been introduced, but let’s wait and see what the official version will be.

I am very happy to announce that I am releasing my first free WordPress theme ever. It is called “Master” and it’s a simple, yet powerful theme that can be used as a blog or magazine. It is a very light theme coded in a minimalistic fashion.  I know that it is not the best theme out there and it is not even the best of what I can accomplish with WordPress, but what makes is a special theme is the fact that it will have premium and very affordable, yet admirable, support and customization services around it.

Do I have to pay for the theme?

No, the theme will be available for free download and usage. The theme in fact is being released under the GPL license which is the same license that WordPress uses. The theme will also have free updates and upgrades forever. Also, I hope we guys build a great support forum for this theme and others to come which will also be free to access, ask and answer.

What do I have to pay for than?

You might never have to pay for anything. But, in case you need help to set up the theme, configure the plugins etc, you might want to buy one of the five (5) service packages that will come along with the theme. These packages vary from setup to theme enhancements and even PSD to the actual theme. More information about this topic will come along with the theme release.

How much do I have to wait for the theme?

Hopefully, not much. I have submitted the theme to WordPress theme directory and as soon as the guys of WordPress make the theme come live, I will make it available for my readers too. I fact I want the theme to be downloaded only from WordPress theme directory, that is why I am not releasing it right now, even thought the theme can be called finished. I think the guys at WordPress won’t need more than 2-3 days to approve it.

After months of designing and coding WordPress blogs and websites, after months of offering consulting and support to my clients, I managed at last to put together some of my favorite web projects which would be called  my portfolio. Struggling for time and rocking my mind about how my new portfolio page should look like, I decided at last that it should be a simple one and have the shape, look and feel that you can see now.

What you can see at my portfolio is about 1/4 of all sites I have been working on. The websites that I have featured are the ones I enjoyed the most developing and are almost 100% my own work. I have been working on other great sites, but for some reason I  chose not to present them at my portfolio. However, you can find more about my works just googling  the “by WPlancer” phrase.

I’m not going to talk any longer, I think I said enough. I would love to hear how you find my new portfolio and the works I have done. I know that I have been very lasy at writing lately; the blog has been a target of dust; thanks to those who have like to have a look what is going on. Well,  a lot has been going on on the background.

I have been very busy working with my clients mostly on WordPress projects. I will discover them lately on by one. Work has been good, but sometimes slow as I have been changing workplace. Now I have a kinda new small office. I like that a lot and I think it will make me work better and write more for my dear readers.

I am planing to change the design of the blog. I am planing something more 2.0. Also I am planing to launch my first free theme soon. I am working on these two too. I am planing to give more time to writing too and I am working on strategies that might give me more time to do that. Any suggestion would be very appreciated.

A lot has been going on out there too. WordPress 2.6 with a lot of new features is coming forth; right now it is in the beta 3 version. Those who will need an upgrade with the stable version can drop me a line and we can fix something. I am very tolerable in the price with the clients that contact me from the blog.

Today I read also an article about browsers war at fourhourworkweek suggested by Matt. I was sad to see that more than 38% of the visitors of that blog is still using Internet Explorer (IE), but I am very happy to announce you that only 14.65% of my visitors so far is using IE. Lately I have been thinking to join the Save the Developers movement for stoping designing for IE6, IE7 is far better.
